Portugal bank complaint: what does your complaint status mean?

An acknowledgement is not a resolution. Identify the message you received and ask a focused question about the next step.

Which message are you reading?

Separate your original complaint, the bank’s reply and a status message from Banco de Portugal. Check the sender, reference and any action requested from you. A status update with no requested action does not automatically create a new payment or response deadline.

The official status page

Banco de Portugal distinguishes registration, asking the institution for its response, assessment and closure. Encerramento means the assessment has ended; read the stated outcome. That status alone does not establish a refund. The official form uses the complaint route, reference and identification details. Enter those directly on the official website, not in Briefhelder.

A safe way to follow up

  1. Open the official status page using the source link below.
  2. Use the reference from your own acknowledgement; do not invent a number.
  3. Read the outcome and instructions in the complete message.
  4. If the next step is unclear, ask for an explanation and keep the reply.

A status enquiry is not a new appeal and does not automatically reopen a closed complaint. Check other ongoing deadlines in your own documents.

Example: a clear follow-up

Fictional situation: you have actually received a closure message. This is a clarification request to the verified sender, not a formal appeal. Do not use it if your complaint has not been closed.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Your message of [date] concerning complaint [reference] states that the assessment has ended. I do not understand the outcome. Please explain what has been concluded, whether you need any further information from me and which next step your message refers to.

Kind regards,

What help is available here?

Portugal does not have an active local-law module in Briefhelder. Use “Other country” and general explanation. The analyser can explain the letter and help draft a general reply; it does not determine local complaint eligibility, legal grounds or deadlines. Check the language accepted by the recipient before sending an English or Dutch reply.

Use official services directly where appropriate; you do not need to buy Briefhelder to open the source below. We do not access your complaint account, contact the bank or submit anything on your behalf.
