Belgian collection letter: identify the collection stage
Separate a request for payment from court or enforcement papers, then prepare a clear response.
Identify the procedure
FOD Economie distinguishes amicable consumer collection from enforcement under an enforceable title. A bailiff’s name alone does not establish the stage. Ask for clarification when uncertain.
Prepare the information you need
Put the reference, amount and invoice date together. Mark which charges or documents you do not recognise. Keep evidence of payments separately. Explain what is missing without inventing a dispute or admitting something you have not checked.
Choose the right language
Select Belgium and the amicable consumer collection topic. Read the explanation in Dutch or English; choose Dutch, French or another available language for your editable reply. Check names and numbers against the original.
Keep control of the response
Copy or download the draft after reviewing it. Verify the recipient independently and retain a copy. Court and enforcement papers need their own response route. Briefhelder does not determine the debt’s validity or calculate legal deadlines.
